Research interest:

My recent research mainly focuses on the visual ecology in three-spined sticklebacks. Major topics are:

a) the relationship between structural (UV) and pigmentary colour components in the expression of male courtship signals,

b) the adaptive value of long-term and short-term changes in signal expression especially with regard to male courtship coloration,

c) population-specific attributes of visual communication concerning the role of receiver physiology and visual signals in sexual interactions.

Furthermore, I’m interested in the costs associated with an exposition to enhanced levels of ambient UV light. UV radiation has a strong impact on physiological and immunological functions in higher organisms. Consequently, UV-driven effects on life history and behaviour can be assumed.
